Mechanical Labourer 4 Day Week
First Achieve Engineering are working in partnership with a leading engineering and manufacturing company to recruit an experienced Mechanical Labourer / Switchgear Fitter to join their growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on mechanical professional with experience in switchgear assembly, busbar systems, and mechanical fitting to join a well-established business delivering high-quality electrical distribution solutions.
The Role
The successful candidate will support the installation, assembly, refurbishment, and maintenance of electrical switchgear systems, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
This role would suit someone with previous experience working on ACBs, busbar systems, coppering out, and rubbering within an engineering or switchgear environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the mechanical assembly and installation of electrical switchgear systems
- Work on:
- Mechanical switches
- Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs)
- Busbar systems
- Carry out coppering out on busbar systems to engineering drawings and specifications
- Complete rubbering and insulation work as required
- Support refurbishment, modification, and maintenance of switchgear equipment
- Read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation
- Safely use hand and power tools
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety procedures
- Maintain high housekeeping and quality standards
- Work closely with engineers, fitters, and site teams to achieve project deadlines
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience working as a Mechanical Labourer, Mechanical Fitter, or Switchgear Fitter
- Strong background within the switchgear or electrical manufacturing industry
- Experience working with:
- Switchgear systems
- Mechanical switches
- ACBs
- Busbar systems
- Coppering out
- Rubbering / insulation work
- Strong mechanical fitting skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Good understanding of health & safety practices
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
